The Chubb vault, Hobart

Built for the Commonwealth Bank.
Now looking after yours.

The vault was originally commissioned by the Commonwealth Bank and later formed part of the Reserve Bank of Australia's Hobart operations — a Chubb chamber of steel and concrete, quietly tucked away on the island of Tasmania, where geography adds another layer of separation.

A building with a past

The Commonwealth Bank,
Hobart — circa 1950.

Trams ran past the front doors, and the Chubb chamber in the basement was being filled with the Commonwealth's reserves. The trams are long gone. The vault is still here — and still doing the same job, for a quieter set of customers.
